Morgan State University, located in Baltimore City, Maryland is a historically Black institution with the unique designation as Maryland’s Public Urban University. Currently the university enrolls approximately 8,000 students and employs 1,500 individuals. Offering degree programs from the baccalaureate through the doctorate, Morgan State University has a comprehensive mission which encompasses instruction, research and public service.

The Murphy Fine Arts Building opened in 2001 and is approximately 140,500 gross square feet. The building is the home for the university’s Fine Arts program consisting of Music, Art and Performance Arts. The Murphy Fine Arts Building also houses the James E. Lewis Museum of Art. The programs provided in the museum consist of sculpture, ceramics, painting, printing and photography. The labs in which these programs are held have developed ventilation and other issues that need to be corrected.
